Nothing like a deadline to get the adrenaline pumping. You feel charged up, have more energy and will definitely get more done in less time. But do remember that quality matters. There will be times when it will be a matter of meeting the deadline but with inferior work, or missing the deadline and eventually doing much better work. I would encourage you to miss the deadline.

Practice, Practice, Practice

I know you have heard it many times before but practice really does make perfect. Writing, whether it is an article, or a novel, or a screen play, is a skill much like cycling or skateboarding. The more you do it, the better you get. And for article writing, the better you are, the faster you can finish an article.

Stop Being A Perfectionist

A few years ago, there was a company that spent 18 whole months working on their website because they wanted it to be perfect. At the end of the 18 months, the investors got tired of waiting and pulled the plug, so the website never went online. While not being perfect does not mean just dashing something off with no regard for quality, it also does not mean you have to spend countless hours tweaking every last sentence. Find a good balance.
